Trauma Response Center
The Trauma Response Center is a Dream Defenders initiative to address community violence and trauma outside of the police state. The lack of services in our community and increased policing is having devastating effects on our generation. Through “The Center”, we are disrupting the belief that the police can meet our needs and demonstrating the alternative, we are providing our community with tools to address violence and harm and providing healing spaces for people through direct service, arts and culture.
“The Center” will be housed at Belafonte Tacolcy Center, a historic youth community center in Liberty City. Following its legacy, the Center will make it a safe haven for youth, and a hub for community services and abolitionist organizing. Some examples of the services offered include: free legal services, violence interruption, mental health counseling, stop the bleed training as well as skills training and job placement, arts programming and more!
Dream Defenders has organized a coalition of groups to make this come to life: Dade County Street Response, Smoke Signals, Roots Black House, and (F)empower are some of the groups involved.
